youth garden
We received an HCF grant, last July, to start a youth garden at our school this spring. So far, we have planted some crocus bulbs and pansies. We have started collecting food waste, from a few classrooms, to add to a compost bin, we will be going on a field trip, in May, to a local garden center to start some seedlings which will be transported to our garden (mostly beans), we will be purchasing some trade books. We are currently having a tech ed class at a local high school, build some raised bed frames for us to fill with soil, flowers and vegetable plants, this spring. All of this has been made possible by the HCF grant.

I am excited about the student garden! I is good for children to see where their food comes from and be involved in the process... Is this at Kennedy?

That is great to hear of your success! That is great that you have tied in the high school students as well as elementary. Do you have plans on how to keep people interested in caring for and learning from the garden over the summer months?

We will check in on the garden over the summer and ask for interested families to help as well. We will also ask for the kids that will be at Kennedy for summer school (either the Y or MSCR, if they could help with watering, etc.).
